Earlier today, Google sent an email to all of its Blogger users to deliver the news they will no longer support FTP after March 26th. Of course eveyone is concerned about how their websites will be impacted when Google disables FTP support. Like so many other professional website development companies, we're moving quickly to develop a plan of action to care for our clients that are currently leveraging Blogger on their websites. We've been customizing Blogger templates and integrating the service into client sites for several years -- leveraging Bloggers FTP services. We will sing Blogger's praises no more. A better course of action would be if Blogger continued to support FTP users and disabled the feature for new users. There's quite an uproar in the industry and Google has certainly dropped a few notches in our opinion.
The Good News:
- Published posts and archives will remain intact.
- There will be no downtime or loss of content on sites using Blogger.
Our Challenge:
- An alternative to Blogger will have to be defined and implemented before clients can begin publishing again.
- We have until March 26th to define and implement an alternative solution.
Next Steps:
- We're already coming up with a list of options for our clients. This includes alternative blogging applications.
